To connect to Piper's GTChat securely using mIRC on Windows, the first thing you need to do is download and install mIRC. mIRC can be downloaded from HERE (just download and install it to the default directory).

Once you have mIRC installed, you will want to download and install OpenSSL from HERE (just download and install it to the default directory).

http://lgtales.com/images/irc/MircInstructions/mIRC-Nag.jpgNow it's time to open mIRC. You will be presented with a "NAG" window like this. mIRC is shareware, and if you like it, I urge you to register it. Otherwise, feel free to just click "Continue".

You will then get a window, with another window poped up in it that will look like this:

Anything you put in these fields will be readable to anyone else. So if you don't want to put in your REAL Full Name or Email Address, you do not have to. But they can NOT be empty. Then put what you would like your nickname to be, in the Nickname field, and an alternative Nickname in the Alternative field (in case the nickname you want is already taken).

Next under "Category" click on the word "Servers" and you will get a page that looks like this:

On that screen, you want to click the "Add" button, and you will be presented with a page that looks like this:

In the Description Field, enter anything you'd like. This is where you put the name that you want to remember it as. I'd recomend "Random Cyberbrats" as this will connect you to a random server in the CyberBrats Network. In "IRC Server" put " irc.cyberbrats.org " as shown, in ports put " +6697 " as shown. The "+" sign tells mirc this is a Secure or SSL encrypted port. For group put " CyberBrats" then click the "Add" button.

Once you have done that, you will get a page that looks like this:

Now make sure "CyberBrats" is highlighted under "IRC Servers:" and click "Select"

Now you will have this page again:

You can now click "Connect" on this page to connect to the IRC server.

If you are running Windows Firewall on XP/Vista/7 or another software firewall, you might get a screen that looks like this:

Since we are using an SSL Encrypted session, I have checked to allow this program on both Private and Public networks.

After clicking "Allow Access" or "Accept" or whatever option you have to let the program access the internet, you will probably be presented with this page:

The reason for this, is that we use "Self Signed" SSL Certificates, and that you are accessing the servers using "irc.cyberbrats.org" instead of a specific server name. Just click "Accept" and mark off "Automatically accept this certificate in the future".

After hitting "Accept" you should see a lot of text scrolling across the screen, and then you should be presented with this screen:

On this screen you want to click "Add" and you will be presented with this dialog:

You want to put "#GirlTalk" as the channel. The # sign is important. Click the box next to "Join on connect" if you want to auto join this channel always. In the description field put "GirlTalk Chat" Or however you wish to describe the channel.

Once done with all of that, click "OK" and you will get this screen again:

Now, make sure "#GirlTalk - GirlTalk Chat" is highlighted, (uncheck "Pop up favorite on connect" if you don't want this screen to show up again) and then click "Join" to join the channel.

Once you've done all that you should end up with something that looks like this:

You can now start chatting! The column on the right hand side shows the "Nicknames" of users online. the "Big" window is where the chat shows up. the "line" at the bottom, is where you type. Have Fun!
